Free income tax preparation and electronic filing is offered in St. Lawrence County by the AARP Tax-Aide program, in cooperation with the Internal Revenue Service for all low to middle income persons, with special attention paid to people 60 and over.
The service is available Jan. 31 through April 15 in:
• Massena: Mondays and Tuesdays 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Community Center on Beach Street
• Potsdam: Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mid-Town Apartments on Munson Street
• Canton: Tuesdays 4 to 8 p.m. at the Canton Fire Dept on Riverside Drive, and Wednesdays 1 to 4 p.m. by appointment only at Partridge Knoll, 30 Sullivan Drive, 386-4459
• Ogdensburg: Thursdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Dobisky Community Center, Riverside Ave.
Volunteer counselors are IRS-trained and certified to handle special credits such as Child Tax Credit, Dependent Care Credits, Earned Income Credit, Education Credits, Home Energy Credits and NYS Real Property Tax Credits.
Anyone who wishes to use this service should bring all forms showing income received for the year 2010. Both spouses should come to the site to file a joint return.
