WADDINGTON – More than 30 young anglers, along with their family and friends, braved frigid temperatures Sunday to participate in the 2nd Annual Youth Ice Fishing Tournament.

The tournament was held on Fobare’s Pond, Coles Creek Road, Waddington.

The catch-and-release event gave out prizes every hour for the largest fish caught during that time. Prizes and trophies were also given for the overall winners, based on fish size.

The event was hosted by Off the Grid Rentals & Guide Services, organized by Greg and Karla Mintz.

Northern pike, perch, and crappies made up the sixteen fish reported by the young anglers to qualify for prizes and trophies.

Winning first place was Christopher Milburn, age 10, Madrid, with his 26.5" Northern pike. He won a Young Angler Starter Kit, donated by Strike Fear Carp Bait of Lisbon.

Second place winner was Mason St. Thomas, 7, Chase Mills, with his 25.5" Northern pike. Thomas won a spring pan fishing trip, donated by Black Lake Adventures & Sportfishing of Black Lake.

Abigail Holmes, 10, Winthrop, took third place with her 25.25" pike. She won a $100 gift card donated by The Mills Country Store of Chase Mills.

Hourly winners included Ridge Holmes 7, Wyatt Snyder, 7, and Jared Lamora, 17.

Additional sponsors included Riverbay Adventure Inn of Chippewa Bay, Mike's Trophies of Canton, Blevins Seaway Marine and RV of Massena, and Ponderosa Beef of Canton.

The tournament raised money for the Waddington and Norwood Fire Departments.
