RUSSELL -- A Russell resident died Saturday shortly after midnight on Lazy River Road, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies.
A passerby observed vehicle tracks leaving the roadway, striking signs and ending in the Grasse River, officers said. The passerby called 911 after noticing a vehicle submerged in the water.
Search and rescue teams from the area worked into the morning to remove the vehicle and the sole occupant.
Deputies said 18-year old Jacob D. Cleary was located deceased by dive team members in water near the area the vehicle entered the water.
Deputies were assisted on scene by state police, forest rangers, Parishville Fire and Rescue, Russell Fire, Rensselaer Falls Fire and Rescue, Canton Fire and Rescue, DeKalb Fire, Morristown Fire and Rescue, Pyrites Fire, Edwards Fire, Massena Rescue, Johnson Towing, and St. Lawrence County Emergency Services.
