St. Lawrence University women's tennis team battled in singles and doubles matches in the first day of the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional Championships at the HWS Tennis Center at William Smith College.

Junior Hillary Drewry led the Saints as she won all four of her matches despite windy weather conditions.  She defeated her opponent in first round singles 6-3, 6-1.  Drewry then went on to beat Amanda Slack of William Smith 6-2, 6-0 in the second round of singles to advance.

Elizabeth also advanced to the second round with a 6-3, 6-4 win before falling to a TCNJ opponent 6-2, 6-1.

Drewry, teamed with senior Stephanie Finn, won both of her doubles matches.  The duo advanced to the third round of doubles with a win over opponents from NYU 8-5.

The Saints still standing will continue to battle tomorrow in Geneva, NY, for a berth in the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships, Oct. 14-17 in Mobile, Ala.
