Matt Weninger made 33 saves for his second shutout of the year and Kyle Flanagan scored the lone goal of the game 2:02 into overtime as St. Lawrence University recorded its first ECAC Hockey road sweep since February of 2009 with a 1-0 victory at Quinnipiac Saturday evening.

The Saints, who won their third straight and are guaranteed a share of the early-season ECAC lead coming out of the weekend, improved to 3-5-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the league with the sweep, which started with a 3-2 win at Princeton on Friday. The Saints last swept a ECAC road series at Union and RPI on Feb. 27 and 28 2009, winning both games by 2-0 scores. The Saints last road sweep was a pair of victories at New Hampshire and Sacred Heart last season.

Weninger won his third straight start as he stopped all 33 shots sent his way by the Bobcats, who went into the weekend ranked 19th nationally in the USCHO poll. He made five saves in the overtime before Flanagan scored his sixth of the season to win it for the Saints.

The winning goal came following a review as freshman Gunnar Hughes put a shot on goal which Quinnipiac goalie Eric Hartzell stopped, but Flanagan picked up the rebound behind the goal and came out and tucked it in on the wraparound. Officials reviewed the play on video, eventually ruling it a goal as Flanagan picked up his first game winner of the season.

"We couldn't have asked for a much better road trip," said Saint associate head coach Mike Hurlbut. "The guys are playing with a lot of confidence, and I think it showed tonight in a game which was well contested and tightly played by both teams. We have played four solid games to start the league season, and while there is a lot of hockey left to be played, we certainly are headed in the right direction at this point."

The Saints were outshot 33-23 in the game, but Weninger continued a streak of outstanding performances in goal with his second shutout in the last four games. He now has a 1.00 goals against average and a .965 save percentage in four league starts.

"Wenny has been great and the guys have given him some solid support," added Hurlbut. "He made some big saves tonight, and we had some good plays to clear rebounds and limit Quinnipiac's scoring chances." Weninger made 13 of his 33 saves in the first period at the Saints were outshot 13-8 and made nine saves in the second period, seven of them on Quinnipiac power plays.

The Saints had six power play chances in the game, but came up empty on 10 shots, and killed off all five Bobcat power play chances, allowing 11 shots. The Saint penalty kill is up to 79 percent overall, but is at 90.5 percent in league play and has not allowed a power play goal since a giving up two in the league-opening 2-0 loss to Union.

SLU will return to ECAC action at Appleton Arena Friday and Saturday, hosting Dartmouth and Harvard.
