SUNY Potsdam sophomore Alexander Taylor has received the State University of New York Athletic Conference Player of the Week in men’s swimming for the week of Jan. 17-23, the league announced Monday.

Taylor, who is in his second year with the team, led the Bears to a pair of dual meet victories over the weekend over North Country rivals.

On Friday, Taylor won the 500 freestyle (4:59.43), 1000 freestyle (10:36.04) and 200-yard individual medley races in Potsdam’s 126-111 triumph over Clarkson. In the Bears’ 135-105 victory over St. Lawrence on Saturday, the Port Ewen, N.Y., native captured the 200 freestyle (1:51.52) and 500 freestyle (5:00.60), and was part of the winning 400 medley relay team (3:46.81).

Taylor, who has been among the most consistent swimmers on this season’s team, also won a trio of events at the North Country Invitational on Nov. 19-20, helping Potsdam to a second-place finish. He also captured three individual events in a dual victory at Buffalo State on Dec. 4.

The Bears (6-1 in dual meets) compete at St. Michael’s (Vt.) this Saturday before heading to the SUNYAC Championships on Feb. 9-12 at Erie CC in Buffalo, N.Y.

Each week, SUNYAC sports information directors nominate student-athletes from their respective institutions for each sport and each player of the week is selected by the league’s administration.
