BUFFALO, N.Y.—Junior swimmer Alexander Taylor set a new school record in the 200 individual medley to highlight the SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams’ first day at the SUNYAC Championships in Buffalo.
Taylor topped his own Potsdam 200 IM record of 1:58.76, which he set at the Fredonia Invitational on Dec. 4. The new record time of 1:56.80 was good enough for a third place finish in the preliminaries. Sophomore Richie Zimmerman also advanced to the finals with an eighth place time of 1:59.18. In the finals, Taylor fell just four hundredths of a second short of breaking the record again. He finished fourth with a time of 1:56.83, while Zimmerman placed sixth with a time of 1:57.59.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow at 10 a.m., when the SUNYAC Championships resume.
