POTSDAM -- Team captains for the 2011-12 SUNY Potsdam men's basketball have selected, as voted on by Bears players and coaches.
Wesley Francisco, Curtis Pierce and Rob Duquette will serve as tri-captains next season for Potsdam, which recently wrapped up its 2010-11 campaign with an 8-18 overall record, including a 7-11 mark in State University of New York Athletic Conference play.
The Bears reached the SUNYAC Tournament quarterfinals, where they were defeated by Oswego State, the conference's regular season champion and a qualifier for the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Francisco will be a senior, one of three expected to return to next year's squad. A guard from Washington Heights, N.Y., Francisco appeared in 12 games in 2010-11.
Pierce, who will be a junior, received third-team All-SUNYAC honors after finishing in the top 10 in the league in rebounding (7.9 per game), field goal percentage (.522), steals (1.69 per game) and minutes played (33.1 per game). The guard/forward from Brooklyn, N.Y., also led the team in scoring with 13.9 points per contest and was one of the team's most consistent options throughout the season, starting all 26 of the team's games.
A forward from Peru, N.Y., Duquette showed flashes of excellent play during his freshman campaign. He started 25 games for the Bears, averaging 8.1 points and 3.5 rebounds while shooting over 80 percent from the free throw line.
