The SUNY Canton Women's Ice Hockey team had the first puck drop of their inaugural season Saturday as they dropped the contest to the Huskies of Northeastern University (0-1) 8-2 in ACHA (American Club Hockey Association) action.
The Roos (0-4) scored two power play goals on the night.
The first goal came in the second period off the stick of sophomore defensemen Devyn Hutcheson (Oswego, NY) who was assisted by Keri Dempsey (Wappingers Falls, NY) and Grace Lyon (Winthrop, NY).
The second goal came in the third period scored by Lyons and assisted by Dempsey.
Freshmen Goalie Alyssa Altschuler (Cheshire, CT) had a fantastic night in the net for the Roos. She faced 60 shots in the game, making 52 saves and endured four power plays, allowing just the eight goals in the outing.
Scoring for the Huskies were Nicole Fox, Lauren Herdt, Hannah Berry (three goals), Savannah Riley, Katie Walsh and Shannon Kelleher.
Between the posts for the Huskies was Zoe Zisis who played all 60 minutes, making 13 saves on the night.
The Lady Roos are back in action today as they again face the Northeastern Huskies at 11 a.m.
