SUNY Canton women win sixth straight beating Fisher College

(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team rolled to their sixth straight win on Saturday as they routed Fisher College 61-27 at Clarkson University’s Alumni Gym.

The Roos improved to 9-2 in the Sunrise Conference and 11-9 overall and have clinched the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament next weekend in Windham, Maine.  SUNY Canton will face No.3 University of Maine at Presque Isle on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m.  This will be the third straight year the two teams have met in the semifinals.  The Roos wrap up their regular season on Sunday against the College of St. Joseph.

Ilijana Todorovic (Banja Luka, Bosnia) led three Roos’ in double figures with 15 points and nine rebounds.  Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) added 11 points and six rebounds and Jackie Maynard (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) came off the bench to post her second double-double of the week with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Roos took the action to the Falcons early as they repeatedly worked the ball down low and converted several layups to lead 15-8 with 7:22 left in the first half.  A 12-2 SUNY Canton run extended the lead to 27-10 with just over a minute on the clock and the Roos eventually carried a 28-11 lead into the locker room.

SUNY Canton stuck to their game plan in the second half and were able to convert easy layups and short jumpers as they out scored the Falcons 33-16 in the final 20 minutes while shooting 46 percent from the floor.

Abbey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.) added eight points, eight rebounds and three assists for the Roos and Brittany Crump (North Lawrence, N.Y.) contributed six points and four rebounds.

Tiffany Beckman had nine points and eight rebounds to lead Fisher.  Javana Bernard added eight points and five rebounds.
