SUNY Canton women shoot down St. Joseph

(Rutland, Vt.)- The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team topped a season-high in points as they defeated the College of St. Joseph 79-40 in a Sunrise Conference game Friday night in Rutland, Vt.

The Roos improved to 4-2 in conference play and 6-9 overall utilizing a solid all-around shooting night from across the court. SUNY Canton recorded their second-highest shooting percentage from the floor this season as they shot 51 percent for the game. The Roos converted 7 of 10 free throws and buried 6 of 11 shots from beyond the three-point arc.

SUNY Canton jumped out early on the Fighting Saints building a 37-17 lead by halftime and then tacking on 42 more points in the second half. The Roos dominated in rebounding as well as they grabbed 40 boards to St. Joseph’s 26.

Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) and Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y.) each reached double figures and five other players scored at least six points for the Roos.

LaFave dropped in 16 points and snagged four rebounds and McGlynn drilled three 3-pointers to finish with 11 points and four assists.

Mindy Small (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) added nine points and three assists. Abbey Shoen (Waddington, N.Y.), Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) and Jackie Sedlacek (Endicott, N.Y.) each had eight points, and Ilijana Todorovic (Banja Luka, Bosnia) contributed six points and nine rebounds.

Brittany Garrow scored 22 points and pulled in seven rebounds to lead the Fighting Saints and Brooke Griswold added nine points.
