PLATTSBURGH -- The SUNY Canton Men’s baseball team scored two early runs in their outing versus SUNY Plattsburgh, ultimately dropping the game by a score of 7-2. The Roos have the opportunity to avenge the outcome tomorrow as they host the Cardinals in doubleheader action starting at 1:00.

Coach Joe Carbone changed up the batting order and saw some immediate results in the offense of the Roos. In the first inning Chris Jones (Deerfield Beach, Fla.) was in the leadoff spot and hit a single to start off the game. Jordan Hunneyman (Redwood, NY) hit a RBI single scoring Jared Marckese (Lecanton, Fla.) and then held the Cardinals to a scoreless inning as pitcher Dom Deliberti (Staten Island, NY) dismissed the batters in a hitless bottom of the inning.

The second inning saw Josh Jones (Brockville, Ontario) score on an RBI by Phil Tsiaras (Toronto, Ontario). The Cardinals started mounting their comeback in the bottom of the second, scoring two runs to tie the score. The game continued to be very tight, with Plattsburgh capitalizing on their offensive opportunities and both team’s defenses remaining fortified.

SUNY Canton had 10 hits in the outing, with Chris Jones going two-for-five, Gerardo Torres (Stafford, Va.) and Dylan Cassleman (Brockville, Ontario) both going two-for-four, and Hunneyman with a RBI and hitting one-for-three.

Deliberti pitched five innings against the Cardinals, striking out two. Relieving him was Travis Legacy (Malone, NY) who continued on for two innings, allowing only one hit while striking out two, and Mike Zelyez (Brasher Falls, NY) closed the game with one strikeout and gave up zero hits.
