(Presque Isle, Maine)- The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team used a strong second half to beat the University of Maine at Presque Isle 64-58 for their third straight win Saturday afternoon in Maine.
The Roos improved to 3-1 in the Sunrise Conference and 5-8 overall and will wrap up their Maine trip on Sunday at the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
The score was tied 29-29 heading into the locker room on Saturday. The Roos came out firing in the second half as they shot 55 percent from the field, sank 13 of 17 free throw attempts and outscored the Owls 35-29 in the final 29 minutes to earn their third straight conference win.
On the defensive end the Roos held the Owls to just 33 percent shooting from the field, including 25 percent from beyond the arc as Presque Isle hit just three of 12 three-point attempts. SUNY Canton also held a 34-30 advantage on the glass.
Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) had 16 points and four rebounds to lead the Roos. Jackie Maynard (Brasher Falls, N.Y.) added 11 points and four rebounds. Mindy Small (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) had eight points, four rebounds and four assists and Tierney McGlynn (Watervliet, N.Y.) and Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) each had seven points apiece.
Rashell Saucier dropped in 17 points to lead the Owls and Emily Pelletier added 13.
