POTSDAM, N.Y. --- The SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team (2-3) defeated the Morrisville Mustang (0-5) on Saturday afternoon at the Turf Field. The Bears led for the majority of the game. The Mustang cut it to a one goal deficit in the fourth, but the Bears were able to go on a run late to secure the victory. Senior midfield Josh Bradford (Whitney Point, N.Y./Limestone College) led the Bears with a season-high four goals. Senior attacker Sean Coe (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) added three goals. Junior attacker Chris Dovi (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) led the Mustangs with four goals.

The Bears took the early 1-0 lead after freshman midfielder Alec Miller (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) sent a pass to an open Bradford for the score from the left side of the goalie. Junior midfielder Joe Piedigrossi (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) then opened up the scoring for Morrisville after scoring on the break after a pass from near the wing area. Shortly after, Dovi then gave the Mustang their first lead with a finish from the right side. Bradford scored his second and third goals to put the Bears back on top. First, after finding the net on a turnaround shot, then scoring from the same spot off the assist from junior midfielder Josh Huiatt (Libson, N.Y./Hugh C. Williams). Dovi got his second goal of the afternoon with a wide open quick stick shot to tie the game. As the first quarter came to a close, the Bears scored again to regain the lead as Coe hit a turnaround shot with a second left in the quarter. The Bears led 4-3 after one.

Junior attacker Tayte Murray (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored the first goal of the quarter with a low shot off the pass from Huiatt. With 7:18 left, Miller found Coe from the back of the goal for quick shot, putting them up three goals. Murray scored once again with a turnaround shot off another assist from Coe. Huiatt added to the lead with a fast ball, and finding the net. The Mustangs put an end to their drought to close the quarter after Dovi scored inside with a sidearm shot. The Bears led 8-4 at halftime.

Ten minutes into the low scoring third quarter, Dovi had the first goal after taking advantage of his one on one matchup with a turnaround shot. The Bears re-established their four goal lead with Bradford's fourth goal of the game with 4:45 left. Senior attacker Nick Geswaldo (LaFayette, N.Y./LaFayette) made it a three goal game going into the fourth and final quarter with a turnaround shot. With Morrisville trying to cut into the lead even more going into the fourth, senior goalie Zach Sheridan (Clay, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) came up big with two saves, first knocking down a shot, and then blocking a turnaround shot within the final seconds.

Junior midfielder Joseph Rosaschi (Cortland, N.Y. / Cortland) scored within the first couple of minutes on the assist from Dovi, cutting the deficit to two goals. With 5:57 left, the Mustangs continued their momentum after scoring off a turnover on a low shot by Geswaldo. With Morrisville on the brink of tying the game, Sheridan saved two more shots, first a turnaround shot from Geswaldo, then scooping up his second attempt. Coming on the other end, senior midfielder Jude Fusilli (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart) went right down the middle on the fastbreak and scored to help the Bears regain the two goal lead. Coe scored his third goal of the game shortly after with a quick shot, bringing the lead back to three for the first time since the third. The goal would be the last of the game as the Mustangs were unable to recover from the two straight goals from the Bears, and Potsdam took the 11-8 victory.

Sheridan had 14 saves for the Bears. Senior goalie Niko Cejic (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City) had five saves for the Mustangs.

Murray and Hulatt had two and one goal a piece for Potsdam. Geswaldo added two goals, while Rosaschi and Piedigrossi had one goal each.

The Bears will start their road trip Tuesday against Clarkson at 7 p.m.
