SLU's Hart earns second top-10 of 2011 Nordic ski season

The St. Lawrence University men's and women's Nordic ski teams competed on the opening day of the 2011 UVM Carnival at the Trapp Family Lodge. Junior Leah Hart paced the women's squad, while classmate Adam Terko was the top finisher on the men's side.

Hart, a native of Meredith, NH, finished in ninth place overall in the women's 15K Classic with a time of 54:57.8. The team captain earned 31.0 points towards the carnival after picking up her second collegiate top-10 showing.

Joining Hart in the scoring for St. Lawrence in the women's event were junior Caroline Carpenter and first-year student Amanda Moreland. Carpenter was 22nd overall, while Moreland closed in 38th place. The trio combined for 70.0 points, good for fifth place overall.

Senior Sophie Allen (50th) and rookie Amy Cymerman (61st) also competed in the women's 15K Classic for St. Lawrence.

On the men's side, Terko led his team for the fourth consecutive individual race. The Shelburne, VT native raced the men's 20K Classic in 1:06.32.7, earning 25th place overall. Terko was credited with 20.0 points for his second career top-25, leading the Saint men to ninth place in the team standings with 48.0 points.

Closing out the scoring for St. Lawrence in the 20K event were senior captain Steven Vargo and graduate student Zach Wetherell. Vargo matched his career-best finish in 27th position, while Wetherell capped the scoring in 43rd place.

Also representing the Scarlet and Brown on Friday were senior Kyle Marvinney (48th) and sophomore Connor Hunt (59th).

The University of Vermont, which will host the 2011 NCAA Championships later this season, won the women's event with 141.0 points, while Caitlin Patterson claimed the individual title for the Catamounts. Though Franz Bernstein also won the men's race for the host school, Dartmouth College won the men's team title with 132.0 points.

Both the St. Lawrence Nordic squads will be in action again tomorrow, Saturday, February 5 on Day 2 of the UVM Carnival.
