The 2011 NCAA Skiing Championships got underway on Wednesday in Stowe, VT, as alpine participants competed in the Giant Slalom.  St. Lawrence University sophomore Ashley-Kate Durham, competing in the NCAA Championships for the second straight year, finished in 19th place overall out of 35 skiers.

The opening alpine event was originally scheduled for Thursday, but the weather forecast forced the GS to be raced on Wednesday.

Durham finished her opening run in 1:03.95, but was hampered by a second run time of 1:05.08.  Her total time of 2:09.03 was just .04 seconds behind Denver's Sterling Grant for 18th.

Denver's Ida Dillingoen won the national championship in the women's GS with a time of 2:05.98.  Meanwhile, the University of Colorado won the team title, defeating the hosting Catamounts of UVM, 104.0 to 103.5.

Durham will represent St. Lawrence again on Saturday when she competes in the Slalom.
