SLU women's squash team go 1-2 in Yale Round Robin matches

St. Lawrence University's women's squash team went 1-2 at the Yale Round Robin Saturday and Sunday and will host the nation's number one ranked women's team as part of the St. Lawrence Round Robin on Friday and Saturday.

The Saints lost 9-0 to 21st ranked Bowdoin in the first match at Yale, and were beaten by the same score by 15th ranked Mount Holyoke, but came back with a 5-4 win over 23rd ranked Tufts in match two. SLU will host top-ranked Harvard, which takes a 6-0 record all by 9-0 wins into a match against third-ranked Trinity on Wednesday, Friday at 7 p.m. and SLU will meet 11th ranked Middlebury on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Frances Robinson went four games against Lizzy Warner at two in the Bodwoin match, winning game one 11-9 before Warner came back with 11-8, 11-5 and 11-4 wins to take the match. Patty Poekel dropped a 3-2 decision at eight, trading games with Michaela Martin for the first four games before Martin pulled out a 16-14 cliffhanger to decide the match. Parker Benedict won the exhibition match at 10 3-2.

Mount Holyoke swept matches one through four by 3-0 scores, but Kendall Harty and Corey McHugh both took their opponents to four games. Benedict again won the exhibition at ten 3-1.

Tufts swept the top four matches against the Saints as Jen Hearn, Robinson, Molly Caplan and Mimi O'Connor all lost by 3-0 scores, but the Saints won the rest of the matches for a 5-4 team victory.

Harty won 3-1 at five, putting it away with a 11-8 win over Alyse Vinosky in game four. McHugh also won a 3-1 decision at six while Charlotte Edson, Poekel, Hannah Corkery and Benedict all won 3-0 matches at seven through 10.
