Potsdam, NY – With 10 3-pointers Skidmore College struck from the perimeter with regularity to spread out the Clarkson University Women’s Basketball team’s defense, as the Golden Knights dropped a 63-48 Liberty League decision Tuesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 5-7 overall and remained winless in conference games at 0-4, while Skidmore moved to 10-3 overall and 4-1 in the Liberty League. Clarkson will look to get back on the winning track this weekend when its hosts Union College and Rensselaer.

Skidmore led throughout the first half, but the Golden Knights kept pace in the early going. Leading by just two points four minutes into the game, the Thoroughbreds went on a 14-0 run over a six-minute span to extend their lead to double digits. Clarkson momentarily stopped the run, but the Knights would never be back within single digits, as Skidmore’s diverse offense continued to pour in the points, finishing the period with a 24-point edge, 41-17.

Skidmore made six of their 13 3-point attempts in the half, and forced 12 turnovers with full-court pressure. The Thoroughbreds shot 50 percent from the field, while the Knights made just 26.7 percent of their attempts from the field and were held scoreless from beyond the 3-point arc. Jessie Kavana led the way for Skidmore with 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Clarkson’s Carey Turner (Clifton Park, NY) had six points, three rebounds, two assists, and a steal in 14 minutes during the first half.

In the second half, it was more of the same, but at a slower pace as Skidmore continued to make its shots from the perimeter in the early going. Eventually, the Thoroughbreds lost their rhythm and Clarkson was able to cut into the significant lead, cutting the deficit to 15 points at the end of the contest when Marissa Pelosi (Medfield, MA) made a pair of 3-pointers in the final minutes of the game.

Freshman Raeanne Clabeaux (New Woodstock, NY) led the Knights with 12 points, making a pair of 3-pointers in the second half. Turner finished with 10 points and four assists. For Skidmore, Jessie Kavana closed with 14 points. Angela Botiba came off the bench to score 11 points and Megan Gaugler finished with 10 points.
