Skidmore tops Saints women's lacrosse on Senior Day

First-year Isabel Silvia scored two goals and caused three turnovers, but Skidmore, who continues to receive votes in the latest IWCLA poll, topped the St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team 17-6 on senior day, Saturday afternoon at North Country Field.

Silvia also won one draw control and picked up a team-best two ground balls, while Morgan Barlow, Kylie Murphy, Claudia Barbera and Emma Owens also scored for the Scarlet and Brown. Barlow led the Saints with four draw control wins, while Hannah Drechsel, Colby Hoffman and Olga Lukas each caused one turnover.

Skidmore took a 5-1 lead after the first 30 minutes of play and built a 12-1 lead over the Saints with 11 straight goals.

St. Lawrence recorded four unanswered goals in a five and a half minute span, but the Thoroughbreds continued to outscore the Saints 5-2 down the stretch and 12-5 in the second half for the win.

Cas Szwajkowski led the Thoroughbreds with nine goals, five draw control wins and two ground balls. Shelby Boland recorded two goals, while Amanda Orvis notched a goal and two assists. Grace Connerty and Emily Hirsch finished with a goal and an assist, while Anna Boogaerts, Natalie LaBeau and Vivian Foley also scored for Skidmore. Hirsch also caused two turnovers, while Kathleen Hanna matched Szwajkowski's five draw control wins.

Saints' goalkeeper Lukas made eight saves for the Scarlet and Brown, while Nicki Eckert finished with 10 saves for Skidmore.

Skidmore outshot the Saints 32-28 and held a 25-16 advantage in shots on goal.

St. Lawrence fell to 4-10 on the season and 2-6 in conference play, while Skidmore improved to 11-4 and 7-2, heading into the final week of the regular season.

Prior to today's game, the Saints honored the graduating Class of 2019 – Tayler Kent, Alexandra LaMotte, Olga Lukas and Olivia Slade.

The Saints will host neighboring Clarkson on Wednesday, April 24 at 7 p.m.
