No. 4 Vassar held the no. 1 seeded St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to 30 percent shooting from the floor in a 59-47 upset Friday evening in the Burkman Gymnasium.

The Saints (19-6, 10-5) were led by junior co-captain Casey Capello's game-high 21 points. First-year student Kelly Legg added 15 points and nine rebounds. The Brewers, now 15-11, were led by junior Brittany Parks who finished with 16 points and seven rebounds. Hannah Senftleber finished with 14 points and seven rebounds. .

Vassar raced out to an 18-5 lead in the early going and held St. Lawrence to 25 percent shooting (8-of-32) from the field and 1-of-10 from 3-point range. Late in the half, however, St. Lawrence used a 13-5 run to cut into the deficit and the teams entered the locker rooms with a score of 25-18.

The Saints went on an 11-4 run to start the second half and brought the score to within two points at 31-29 when Capello connected on a lay-up. Vassar answered with three straight buckets and two free throws to bring the score to 39-29 with 12:14 to play.

After Vassar had built its largest lead of the game (46-31) with 9:15 to go, Capello single-handedly brought the Saints back into the game, rattling off 11 straight points for the home team to cut the Brewer's lead to 49-42 with 6:44 left in the half. The Brewers, however, connected on some shots that killed the Saints' momentum, and the home team could not come out on top.
