Saint's Visconti in Slalom Top-10 at EISA Championships

St. Lawrence University first-year alpine skier Allison Visconti earned her first collegiate top-10 finish on Friday, as the Saints competed in the slalom at the 2012 EISA Championships in Middlebury, VT. Visconti and sophomore Ben DeFlavio led both the men's and women's teams to seventh place in the team standings.

Visconti, who entered the race needing a quality finish to remain in contention for an NCAA bid, landed in ninth place overall with a combined time of 1:40.73. Though the Ridgefield, CT native was 26th after the first run, her second run time of 49.66 was the best recorded time, propelling her into the top-10.

Sophomore Caroline Barry finished in 21st place overall, while junior Ashley-Kate Durham followed in 22nd to cap the Saints' scoring.

First-year students Maria Hillenbrand (24th) and Kelly Appenzeller (30th) also had solid showings in the slalom, as each landed in the top-30 overall. Senior Mackenzie Irwin (DNF 2nd) rounded out the women's team's line-up.

Meanwhile, DeFlavio's total time of 1:38.50 landed the Waitsfield, VT native in 22nd place overall, leading his team to seventh. Joining him in the scoring on Friday were classmate Dustin Martin in 30th and senior captain Matt Dodge one spot back in 31st.

Senior Scott Houser (38th), rookie Graham Scott (47th) and senior Jeremy Lawless (DQ) also represented the Scarlet and Brown in the men's slalom.

Dartmouth College held off Williams College to win the women's slalom, while the University of Vermont claimed the men's title, led by individual champion Jonathan Nordbotten. The Catamounts also had the individual winner on the women's side, Kate Ryley.

Both St. Lawrence alpine teams will compete in the giant slalom tomorrow on in the final event of the 2012 EISA Carnival season.
