The varsity eight and second varsity eight boats rowed to second-place finishes in the finals heats for the St. Lawrence women's rowing team, while the third varsity eight placed third in a five-team regatta hosted by Hamilton College on the Erie Canal in Rome, New York.
In addition to the host Continentals, the Saints competed against crews from Union, Vassar and Rochester on Saturday afternoon as the team's successfully beat the rain and were able to race in nice conditions.
The Saints got off to a fast start on the day with the 1V posting a time of 7:06:04 in its opening heat against Vassar, beating the Brewers (7:10:08) by more than four seconds. Nationally-ranked Hamilton paced the final in the afternoon session with a time of 7:34.20, while the Saints finished the course in 7:44.59 to take second and Vassar finished third 8:01.94.
In the women's 2V race, the Saints (7:25.04) also won their morning heat against Vassar (7:44.83), and finished less than one second behind top-seeded Hamilton heading into the afternoon final.
The Continentals, however, posted a 10-second margin of victory over St. Lawrence in the final, posting a winning time of 8:04.37 to the Saints' 8:14.95. Vassar once again came in third with a time of 8:39.48.
The 3V crew did not race in a morning prelim, but rather competed against crews from Hamilton and Rochester in a single race to conclude Saturday's morning session.
The Yellowjackets won the 3V race with a time of 7:42.86, while Hamilton finished second in 7:59.91 – four seconds in front of the Saints, who completed the course in 8:03.92.
