Saints' Roberts, 4x100 relay star at Rochester Invitational

The St. Lawrence University 4x100 relay team won its race in an ECAC qualifying time of 42.72 and Jarell Roberts had a pair of second place finishes in the sprints among a number of top five performances for the Saints men's outdoor track team in its season-opening meet at the Rochester Invitational at the University of Rochester on Saturday.

The team of Omaru Kabia, Jamal Samaroo, Adrian Wilson and Roberts won the 4x100 by over a half second over Brockport State for the Saints' lone event win of the meet. Roberts came back to finish second in the 100 meters in an ECAC qualifying time of 11.01 seconds and also qualified for the ECAC Championships with a 22.27 second place finish in the 200.

Tim Liponis finished second in 15:41.41 in the 5000 meters with Alex Calderwood sixth and Trevor Bibb eighth; Jake Fredericks was second in 15.63 and Justin Spalik fifth in the 110 hurdles and James May was third in 51.24 and Taylor Macci fourth in 51.52 in the 400 meters. Chris Payton added an eighth place finish in the 400 hurdles while Aaron Tompkins was fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 9:54.05 and Spencer Fausel finished sixth in the 1500 in 4:05.23.

In field event competition, Brian Kane was third on attempts clearing 1.93 meters in the high jump with Fredericks seventh. Samaroo was second with a 6.39 meter jump, Spalik was third at 6.28, Wilson was sixth, Kane seventh and Payton tenth in the long jump. Samaroo was fourth with a 12.75 meter jump with Kane sixth and Payton seventh in the triple jump.

In the throws, Josh Martell was third with a 47.45 meter throw and Jon Cyphers was seventh in the javelin and A.J. Blaisdell finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 38.78 meters and sixth in the hammer with a 46.35 meter throw.
