The St. Lawrence University field hockey team snapped a three-game losing skid on Thursday evening, as the Saints used three second half goals to defeat Nazareth College 3-2 in Rochester, NY.

The Saints (5-6) finished with a 19-9 advantage in shots and a narrow 10-9 lead in penalty corners, but the Golden Flyers (3-7) stayed in the game thanks to a 13-save performance in net by Kelsey Evans.

St. Lawrence held a 5-3 edge in both shots and penalty corners over Nazareth in the opening half, but was unable to score the game's first goal.  The Scarlet and Brown finally broke through 1:25 into the second half, when senior Brooke Maloney beat Evans for a 1-0 lead.  The Greenwich, CT native lifted the ball past the keeper and into the right corner of the cage for her fourth goal of the season.

The goal gave the visitors the momentum, and they quickly struck with two more goals to build a 3-0 cushion.  Senior Caitlin Estes took a pass from Maloney and scored her first goal of the season for a 2-0 advantage at 45:33, while sophomore Courtney Cartier made it 3-0 at 55:37 with her second goal of the year.  Senior Michelle Laframboise assisted on the Saints' third goal.

Nazareth would claw its way back into the game behind consecutive goals by Alexis Root.  Kailee O'Hara set up Root's first goal at 57:22, then assisted on the second goal off of a penalty corner at 65:39 to pull the Golden Flyers back to within a goal at 3-2 with 4:21 remaining.

Despite giving up two penalty corners in the final four minutes, the Saints were able to protect first-year goalie Nicole Matos and run out the clock on the 3-2 non-conference victory.

Matos closed with one save for St. Lawrence, which will be in action again tomorrow, Friday, October 15 against Geneseo State at 4:00pm.
