Sophomore Stephanie Sayward scored one goal and set up another as St. Lawrence University's women's soccer team finished its season with an 11-7 record after a 3-1 win at Potsdam State Wednesday afternoon.

SLU outshot Potsdam 15-5 and had nine corner kicks to one for the Bears, who finished their year at 10-10.The Saints recorded their most wins in a season since 2002

“The team came out with good energy today and as the game progressed we continued to improve. I was pleased to see how hard we came out in the second half and while our possession game was much better, we continued to create excellent chances. Abby came up with a big save in the first half which really brought us back to life. Overall, everyone did a fantastic job of contributing and we certainly ended the season on a fantastic note. I’m very proud of the team.”

The Saints built a 2-0 lead with second half goals by Brooke Hessney, who scored her fifth goal of the year just 3:38 into the second half and by Elena Rogers, who scored her sixth of the season and third game-winner from Sayward at the 58:35 mark of the second half.

Potsdam cut the Saint lead to 2-1 at the 68:19 mark as Heather Johnson scored from Jess Mehm, but the Saints iced the win with Sayward's seventh of the year with 12:26 to go from Kristina Peso.

Goalkeeper Abby van Geldern finished with three saves while Andrea Strauss played the final eight minutes without seeing a shot. Kim Callahan made seven saves on 10 shots for the Bears.
