Center fielder Carter Franz hit a two run home run in game one, finishing a Liberty League doubleheader with four hits and six runs driven in and freshman Mark Syron drove in five runs, four of them with his first collegiate homer as St. Lawrence rallied from a 5-0 deficit to complete a sweep of Union College at Tom Fay Field on Sunday. The Saints took game one 8-3 and won the second 14-6 to run their win streak to seven in a row and continue one of the best starts to a season in program history.

St. Lawrence is now16-4 overall and 9-2 in Liberty League play after its four game sweep of the Dutchmen, 10-11, 5-7. The Saints will return to action at Tom Fay Field against Rensselaer next Saturday and Sunday.

In Sunday's first game, sophomore Joe Riley improved to 3-1 on the season, scattering six hits and allowing just one earned run in a seven-inning complete game. Riley walked two and struck out five.

The Saints gave him an early cushion, scoring three off Union starter Andrew Beaule in the top of the first. Bryan Palermo opened the game with a double to center field and after Carter Franz walked, Khifer O'Connor's sacrifice attempt was misplayed and both runners scored. Jeff Kott then singled to center to plate O'Connor for an early 3-0 Saint lead. The Saints, playing as the visiting team on their home field in the second half of the Liberty League four-game set, tacked on two more runs in the top of the second as Brian Brennan doubled to center field and Franz nailed a two-out homer to left field.

SLU opened up an 8-0 lead in the top of the fourth as Matt D'Auteiul reached on an error, was ascrficed to second and scored on Ethan Braddock's double. Palermo then singled, scoring Braddock and after Palermo stole second, Kott singled him home.

Union scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth as Vince Esposito scored on David Peretti's ground out and tacked on two in the bottom of the seventh as Esposito was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on Nate Foster's single. Foster then stole second, went to third on an error on the steal and scored on Tyler Heck's ground out to complete the scoring.

Union roughed up Saint starter Andrew Schreyack for four runs on four hits in the bottom of the first and tacked on another run in the second for a 5-0 lead. Dylan Katz-Wicks hit a run scoring double, Heck singled him home and the Dutchmen added later runs on a ground out and a double by Sam Caruso. Union chased Schreyack with three more hits in the bottom of the second and while Michael Dell'Olio did allow the second inning run on a wild pitch, he kept the Dutchmen at bay while the Saints batted their way back into it.

The Saints finally got to Union starter Seth Roberts in the top of the fourth as O'Connor hit a lead-off homer and after Kott was hit by a pitch, Paul Piatelli homered to cut the Union lead to 5-3. The Saints took the lead with a six-run top of the fifth as Palermo led off with a double, Franz singled him in, moved to third on O'Connor's single and scored on Kott's single to center. Matt McGavick took over for Roberts and while Union got one out on a bases loaded grounder, Syron hit his grand-slam to give the Saints a 9-5 lead.

Union cut it to 9-6 with a run in the bottom of the fifth on back-to-back doubles by Caruso and Jason Cohen, but Dell'Olio got out of the inning on a double play and Chris Kellogg came on in the bottom of the sixth to shut Union out the rest of the way, striking out three and allowing only two hits in four innings.

The Saints scored three more runs in the top of the sixth on a run-scoring double by Franz, a run-scoring single by Kotz and a sacrifice fly by Syron made it a 12-6 game and Franz singled in two runs in the top of the seventh to complete the scoring.
