The St. Lawrence University Nordic ski teams competed in the freestyle races on Friday at the 2012 Dartmouth Carnival, being held at the Trapp Family Lodge in Stowe, VT due to weather conditions at Oak Hill. Senior Caroline Carpenter continued to shine in the women's 5k race, while classmate Adam Terko and rookie Will Frielinghaus paced the men's team in the 10k.

"This was another excellent race for Caroline, as we're heading into the final stretch of the carnival season," said St. Lawrence head coach Ethan Townsend. "Today was also highlighted by a strong race by Will (Frielinghaus), who has shown great improvement and posted a career-best finish."

Carpenter extended her recent string of top-15 finishes to three on Friday, finishing 12th in the women's race. The Shelburne, VT native raced in 14:36.2, leading the Scarlet and Brown to seventh place in the team standings. Fellow senior Leah Hart was 32nd overall, while junior Kelsey Nichols capped the scoring in 43rd position.

First-years Kate Mulcahy (47th) and Emma Duffany (60th) and sophomore Bridget Shea-Gander (65th) also competed for the Saints in the women's 5k free.

On the men's side, Terko was the top St. Lawrence finisher in 30th place for a team that was without sophomore Eric Lustgarten in the 10k free. Frielinghaus added a lift, closing in 35th place for a new collegiate-best showing, followed by fellow rookie Austin Meng in 41st position. The trio combined for 41.0 points for ninth place.

First-year student Evan Turner (48th) and sophomore Bill Prescott (53rd) rounded out the team's roster on Friday.

The University of Vermont edged Dartmouth College in the women's race, though the Big Green did have the individual winner in Sophie Caldwell. Dartmouth did top UVM on the men's side, while Patrick Johnson of Middlebury claimed victory in the 10k.

Both St. Lawrence Nordic teams will compete again tomorrow, Saturday, February 11 in the classic races at the 2012 Dartmouth Carnival.
