The Saints, now 10-23 on the season, will finish their 2012 season tomorrow with matches against Alfred and SUNY Canton.
"The first set against Brockport State was one of our best of the season," said St. Lawrence head coach Shelly Roiger. "Our hitters did a great job of finding the court and our first and second contact did a nice job of putting them in position to be successful."
The Saints were sound on offense against Brockport State, earning a 25-11, 25-22, 26-28, 25-21 victory. First-year student Lexi Brown had 15 kills to only three errors and added a team-high 19 digs, while classmate Rebecca Doser chipped in 12 kills. Co-captains Anna Kassab and Jenna Street combined for 45 assists, while fellow co-captain Katie Prue had 18 digs.
The four-set victory followed a loss to Houghton that saw the Saints struggle in the opening set. Though the evened the match at 1-1, they couldn't sustain momentum, falling to the Highlanders 25-14, 24-26, 25-20, 25-17.
"Our Houghton match started out very sloppy and unfocused," added Coach Roiger. "We regrouped and played a very good second set, but didn't have quite enough to pull out a victory in sets three or four."
Brown had 13 kills and 13 digs, while Street had a team-high 24 assists. Rookie Marisa Turner added nine kills and Prue had a team-best 18 digs.
