(Machias, Maine)- The SUNY Canton women’s basketball team scored 18 points in overtime as they beat the University of Maine at Machias 77-71 Friday afternoon for their second straight Sunrise Conference win.

The Roos improved to 2-1 in the conference and 4-8 overall.

The scored was deadlocked at 31-31 after the first half and 59-59 at the end of regulation before the Roos caught fire in the extra session despite the cold and snowy conditions outside that shut down most of Machias on Friday.

SUNY Canton shot 73 percent from the free throw line and stepped up their defensive pressure according to head coach Bruce Tallon.

“Several of our players like Tierney McGlynn, Jackie Sedlacek and Abbey Shoen played terrific defense tonight,” said Tallon. “We also got key baskets at the right times from several different players.”

Shannon LaFave (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) notched her second straight double-double and third of the year as she had 24 points and 13 rebounds.

Brittany Kenyon (Hammond, N.Y.) added 18 points and eight rebounds and Mindy Small (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) had 15 points.

Sabree Rodriguez led the Clippers with 28 points and eight rebounds and Kayla Wood chipped in with 22 points and five boards.
