(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton women’s soccer team fought back to pull within one goal late in the second half but couldn’t get the equalizer as they lost to the University of Maine at Presque Isle 2-1 on Saturday in Canton.
The Roos trailed 2-0 but with just over eight minutes remaining in regulation, Melissa Campoverde (Forest Hills, N.Y.) trimmed the lead in half scoring an unassisted goal, her third of the year. But the Owls, who scored a goal in each half, were able to hold on for the victory.
Both teams contended with less than favorable weather conditions including rain, wind and cold temperatures in the lower 40s.
Holli-Jo Cota (Ogdensburg, N.Y.) recorded one save in goal while her counterpart, Taylor Ussery, had four.
SUNY Canton will travel to Brockport State this Tuesday, Oct. 4 for a 4 p.m. game with the Golden Eagles.
