(Clermont, Fla.) The SUNY Canton softball team dropped two games in Florida on Tuesday as they lost to Ferrum College 10-2 and Capital University 12-1 in Clermont.
In the opening game against the Panthers, junior Heather Lottie (Canton, N.Y.) stroked a two-run triple in the fourth inning for the Roos. Junior Vicky Lynch (Howard Beach, N.Y.) had two singles and junior Tina DeLuca (Fresh Meadows, N.Y.), junior Colleen Rivers (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and freshman Olivia Blackmore (Madrid, N.Y.) had one single apiece. Junior Jessica Measheaw (Hammond, N.Y.) and freshman Chrissy Dunton (East Chatham, N.Y.) combined to give up 10 hits on the mound.
“We’re definitely getting better each game and showing a lot of improvement,” said head coach Bryan Ingalls.
In the second game against Capital Lottie ripped her second triple of the day. DeLuca added another single and sophomore Shiloh Bourgeois (Keesville, N.Y.) contributed a single and a run. DeLuca and Measheaw combined on the loss on the mound.
“We’re playing some very good softball teams right now and we’re right there with them which is giving the players a lot of confidence,” added Ingalls. “Our hitting is starting to come around and the last couple of games we’ve put the ball in play more and put more runners on base.”
Next up for the Roos are single games against Augustana College (Ill.) on Feb. 29 at 9 a.m. and University of Michigan-Dearborn at 1 p.m.
