(Fort Kent, Maine)-The SUNY Canton men's soccer team put up a solid battle against nationally-ranked University of Maine at Fort Kent but eventually fell 4-0 Saturday in Maine.
The Roos, who entered the weekend having won five out of their last seven games, saw their record drop to 5-2 in the Sunrise Conference and 5-6 overall. The Bengals, ranked sixth in the latest NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll, improved to 8-0 in conference play and 12-0 overall.
SUNY Canton held the high-scoring Bengals to just one goal in the first half which made head coach Mark Howlett very happy.
"We played so well in the first half," said Howlett. "We looked like the better team and I was very happy with the way they performed. We then had a 10-minute breakdown in the second half which you can't do against a team like Fort Kent."
Homero Flores (Tamaulipas, Mexico) had four saves for the Roos who will face the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Sunday.
Andre Anderson scored three goals to lead the Bengals.
