(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men's ice hockey team couldn't hold on to early lead as they lost to Oswego State University 5-3 Saturday night in the opening round of the 3rd Annual Terry Martin/Pride's Corner Tournament at the Canton Pavilion.

The Roos dipped to 14-3 and saw their six-game unbeaten streak come to an end. They'll play in the consolation game on Sunday at noon against Cornell University who lost to John Carroll University 3-2 in the other first-round game. John Carroll and Oswego will play in the championship game at 3 p.m.

SUNY Canton seemed to have the game under control as they scored on their opening shift and dominated the Lakers in the first period and eventually stretched the lead to 3-0 justtwo minutes into the second period.

The Roos took it to the Lakers in the opening stanza as they fired 14 shots on goal and limited Oswego to just a few good offensive chances.

Anthony Delzotto (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) got the start at forward and promptly scored just 16 seconds into the game from linemate Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.). Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) made it 2-0 when he tipped in a pass from JP Boucha (Warroad, Minn.) at the 17:42 mark of the first period.

The score grew to 3-0 when Rob Liggio (Canton, N.Y.) scored from Delzotto early in the second period.

Penalties then caught up with the Roos as they were whistled for six infractions, including one five-minute major in the second period. The Lakers took advantage as they converted three power play goals to tie the game, added another score in the final minute which proved to be the game-winner and then tacked on another power play goal in the third period.

The Roos kept fighting in the third period and kept firing shots at the Lakers trying to close the gap but several of those shots missed their mark and those that did go on goal were turned aside by Oswego goalie Anthony Sellitti who stopped all 12 shots he faced in the final period to finish with 32 in the game.

Michael Pittman (Amarillo, Texas) suffered his first loss of the season as he had 18 saves for the Roos and the freshman is now 3-1 in four starts this season.
