(Bennington, Vt.)- Justin Richardson (Pavilion, N.Y.) captured his second career individual win leading the SUNY Canton men’s cross country team to their second victory of the year winning the Mountaineer Invitational at Southern Vermont College.

Richardson came out of the gates quickly and with a fast start established himself as the one to beat in the race. The junior has been the top finisher for the Roos in every meet this year and adds Saturday’s win to an already impressive resume that includes the individual title at the Sunrise Conference championships hosted by the Roos in 2010. Richardson completed the 8K race on a tough and hilly course in Bennington on Saturday beating 80 other runners in a time of 30:34, nearly a minute faster than Kyle Dash of Paul Smith’s College. The Roos finished with 33 team points beating the Bobcats by seven points.

“Justin had very decisive victory today,” said head coach John Kennedy. “This is one of the highlights so far of his running career and I’m very happy for him. We had a lot of guys really gut it out at the end that gave us the necessary points to win the race. I’m just so proud of all of their efforts today.”

SUNYIT finished in third place followed by Bard College, Green Mountain College, Dutchess College, and Southern Vermont.

The Roos took six of the top 20 slots in another impressive performance. Timothy Messina (Queensbury, N.Y.) finished in fifth place in a time of 32:27 followed by Jon Flint (Queensbury, N.Y.) in sixth (32:31) and Dylan Barringer (Walkill, N.Y.) in seventh (32:51). Thomas Lauzon (Bombay, N.Y.) came in 14th (33:42) and Addisu Woldehawariat (Bronx, N.Y.) rounded the Roos top contingent with a 16th-place finish (33:51).

SUNY Canton is next in action when they run at the SUNY Geneseo Invitational on Oct. 1
