(Canton, N.Y.)- Darren Camp (Canton, N.Y.) netted a hat trick Sunday afternoon lifting the SUNY Canton men’s ice hockey team past Cortland State 8-2 at the Canton Pavilion in an ACHA Division I game.

The 20th-ranked Roos won their 20th game for the third straight year and moved to 20-6 overall.

The Roos had to come from behind for the second straight day but this time it was just a one-goal deficit that SUNY Canton quickly turned into a 4-1 lead after the first period after out shooting the Red Dragons 12-2 in the opening stanza.

Camp tied the game a mere five seconds after Cortland went ahead 1-0 scoring from Kristian Daley (Canton, N.Y.) at the 14:58 mark.

Dan Cibelli (Liverpool, N.Y.) increased the lead to 2-1 scoring unassisted at the 16:23 mark and then Camp scored his second of the day off a nice feed from Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) who had a made a strong rush up the left wing with 51 seconds left in the period.

Cortland stopped the bleeding momentarily when Scott Miele scored seven minutes into the second period. But the Roos kept attacking and pumped in four more goals to close out the period and lead 7-2 after 40 minutes.

Doug Burns (Manchester, N.H.) scored his third goal of the weekend from Camp at the 9:33 mark of the second. John Payne (Port Moody, B.C.) made it 5-2 scoring off another assist from Cook at the midway point of the period. Anthony Delzotto (South Glens Falls, N.Y.) stretched the lead to 6-2 when he ripped a shot from just outside the top of the left faceoff circle after Rob Liggio (Canton, N.Y.) cleanly won a faceoff right to his stick. Camp then rounded out his hat trick with 28 seconds left as he put a nice fake on Cortland goalie Nate Mellow to knock the puck in. Tom Darling (Oswego, N.Y.) and Terry Bradford (Londonderry, N.H.) picked up assists.

Liggio closed out the scoring with 8:48 left in the game as he intercepted a clearing pass at the Red Dragons blue line, took two strides and ripped a shot past Mellow.

The game was then called with 7:31 on the clock when Mellow was ejected for a vicious slash on Burns and Cortland did not have a backup goalie.

Matt Cray (Merrimack, N.H.) stopped 14 of 16 shots in goal for SUNY Canton and saw his record go to 6-0.
