(Potsdam, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men’s basketball team dropped an 83-67 decision to Fisher College Saturday afternoon at Clarkson University’s Alumni Gym.

Tony Valentin (Perth Amboy, N.J.) pumped in a game-high 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds to lead the Roos, who wrap up their season on Sunday against the College of St. Joseph.  Silvon John (Bronx, N.Y.), Khalid Vaughn (New York, N.Y.), and Irving Cato (New York, N.Y.) each scored 10 points apiece on Saturday.

The game was plagued by fouls as both teams combined for 44 whistles.  The Roos took 26 trips to the free throw line and the Falcons had 27 attempts from the charity stripe.

Fisher jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the early goings of the contest before the Roos responded with six straight points after baskets from John, Vaughn and Cato to tie the game.

Fisher answered with a 14-4 run to boost their lead into double figures and they would eventually lead 39-28 at the break.

SUNY Canton carved the lead to 10 points on two separate occasions in the second half.  Valentin scored on a driving layup with 8:48 left that made it 63-53 and Rob Sanders (New York, N.Y.) scored on spinning layup down the lane that made the score 65-55 a minute later.  But that’s as close as the Roos would come as the Falcons used their size advantage to get good looks in the paint and they converted several key outside shots to secure the win.  The Falcons also clinched the Sunrise Conference regular season championship and the top seed in the conference tournament next weekend in Windham, Maine.

Theron McGregor (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added eight points and Sanders finished with five rebounds.

Louis Williams scored 16 points to lead Fisher and Casey Pursell added 15 points and four rebounds.
