The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon as the Saints finished with four power play goals en route to a 7-1 victory over Yale University in New Haven, CT.

The Scarlet and Brown improve to 13-7-3 (7-4-1) having won for the seventh straight time. The Bulldogs drop to 1-17-0 (1-10-0) after being outshot 52-17.

"We had another strong effort from many players on our team," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells, whose team will square off in a home-and-home weekend with archrival Clarkson next Friday and Saturday. "We were able to continue our solid play, and it looks to be a great weekend of hockey next weekend."

St. Lawrence controlled the tempo against Yale from the get-go, building up an impressive 21-6 advantage in shots on goal in both the first and second periods. Captain Karell Emard opened the scoring at 9:00 of the first period, while senior Vanessa Emond made it 2-0 only 4:23 later.

Though Yale would get on the scoreboard on the power play at 16:43 to cut its deficit to 2-1 at intermission thanks to a power play goal by Aleca Hughes, the home team was overmatched throughout the remainder of the game, giving up five straight goals.

Emond opened the second period scoring only 1:06 in on the power play, while sophomore Rylee Smith picked up her 10th goal of the year at 5:11 for a 4-1 lead. Junior Kelly Sabatine and first-year student Amanda Boulier would cap the scoring with power play goals at 9:12 and 17:30, respectively, to push the Saint lead to 6-1 after two periods.

Junior defenseman Brooke Fernandez would add her eighth goal of the season early in the third period to finish the game's scoring at 7-1.

St. Lawrence closed with a 4-of-6 mark on the power play, while Yale was 1-for-3. Genny Ladiges made 45 saves in the loss for the Bulldogs, while rookie Carmen MacDonald and sophomore Caitlyn Lahonen combined for 16 saves in the win. MacDonald was credited with the victory having made 11 stops in two periods, while Lahonen made five saves in relief.

Emond (2g,1a) and Sabatine (1g,2a) both had three points for St. Lawrence while Boulier and Smith both finished with a goal and a helper each. Dayle Wilkinson, Michelle Ng, Jessica Hon, Jessa McAuliffe, Bailey Habscheid and Elli Williams each had one assist in the victory.

The Saints will host Clarkson on Friday, January 20 at 7:00pm at Appleton Arena. The two teams will then head to Cheel Arena in Potsdam on Saturday for a 3:30pm start.
