Senior Wendy Pavlus won at 1500 meters and again at 5000 meters on Saturday to complete a perfect Liberty League outdoor track career, but St. Lawrence University's women's outdoor team had to settle for second place in a tight battle with Rensselaer in Saturday's Liberty League Championships on rain-soaked Merrick Pinkard Track.

The Saints trailed RPI by just two points with 17 events scored, but the Engineers opened up an 11 point lead, picking up 18 points in the discus, and clinched the meet with a win in the 4x400 relay. The Saints cut the final total to nine points with a win in the 4x800 relay, but RPI finished with 247 points to the Saints 238 with Vassar a distant third with 79 and Union trailing with 40.

Pavlus never lost an outdoor race in her four year career in the Liberty League championships, winning three steeplechase titles and two 5000 meter championships prior to Saturday's meet. Pavlus won the mile on Saturday in a good duel with teammate Jenna Hulton, winning in 4:52.41 with Hulton, who led briefly on the backstretch on the final lap, finishing second in 4:59.95. Pavlus came back later in the meet to win the 5000 meters in 17:45.44 to run her total of Liberty League outdoor titles to seven and her overall Liberty League track and field championships to 13. The Saint senior won all but two of the Liberty League championship races she ran in during her four year career, finishing second in the mile indoors in both 2008 and 2009.

The Saints also received a big day from senior Kelsey Rebehn who was part of the winning 4x100 meter relay team, won the 400 meters in 61.82 and was fourth in the 200. She was joined on the 4x100 relay team by Tori Bean, her younger sister Emily and Hannah Kinsey and they combined to win in 52.27 seconds.

Kinsey won the 100 meters in 13.79 seconds with Bean finishing third and was second in 28.35 in the 200 meters with Kearsten Cubit finishing third in addition to Rebehn's fourth. Amanda Moreland won the steeplechase in 11:55.57 with Caroline Raue finishing fourth and the team of Katie Loignon, Liz Atwood, Toria Koutras and Hulton ran 9:57.46 to win the 4x800 relay.

Junior Heather Cutler had the lone field event win for the Saint women as she won the discus with a 34.52 meter throw with Lisa Baron fifth and Kristen Linder sixth, but the Saints did have a number of solid field event performances despite the poor weather conditions.

Jessica Venezia was second with a 4.69 meter jump, Emily Rebehn was third and Bean fourth in the long jump while Bean finished second with a 10.46 meter jump, Emily Rebehn was third and Venezia fourth in the triple jump. Caitlin Boreyko was second with a 2.76 meter mark in the pole vault with Marissa Rescott third and Taylor Washington fourth while Kathryn Christensen was third with a 1.46 meter jump and Megan Nuffer was fifth in the high jump.

In the throws, Lisa Baron was third with a 10.83 meter throw, Linder was fifth and Jessica Ingalls was sixth. Ingalls finished fourth in the javelin with Kinsey adding a sixth place finish. Cutler scored with a sixth place finish in the hammer.

Other top finishes on the track for the Saints included a second by Sarah Silk in 17.61 seconds in the 100 hurdles, a third by Loignon in the 800 with Koutras fourth and Hulton fifth. Jacquelynn Lemme scored in the 1500 with a sixth while Kearsten Cubit was second and Katie Mannix sixth in the 400. Bean added a third in the 100, Megan Derby was third and McKayla Nuffer finished fourth in the 5000 and Rescott was sixth in the 400 hurdles. The Saint 4x400 relay team of Emily Rebehn, Cubit, Lemme and Kelsey Rebehn was third in 4:24.25.
