The St. Lawrence University women's lacrosse team saw its two-game win streak come to a halt on Tuesday, as nationally-ranked No. 3 Cortland State opened up a 10-0 lead in the first half en route to an 18-6 win in Cortland, NY.

The Red Dragons improve to 4-1 on the season having outshot the Saints by an impressive 47-16 margin. St. Lawrence falls to .500 at 2-2 and also lost the ground ball battle, 29-15.

Cortland State needed only 15:20 to take a double-digit lead in the first half, as Lindsay Abbott scored three of her game-high six tallies to open up a 10-0 advantage. Marilyn Farrell, Erin Kollar and Maria Di Fato also added goals as the home team built a seemingly insurmountable lead.

St. Lawrence would tally three straight goals to pull within seven, as Alanna Piroli, Hanne Bailey and Brigid Hurley each scored in a span of 5:40. However, Abbott would add two more tallies for Cortland to give them a 12-3 halftime edge.

Abbott capped her goal scoring with the first tally of the second half on a free position shot, while Di Fato followed for a 14-3 lead. Though Carly VanTassel, Piroli and Mackenzie Collins would score second half goals for the Saints, Cortland State had too much offense and closed with the 18-6 victory.

Senior Kendall Harty and Bailey each had one assist for the Scarlet and Brown. Senior goaltender Paige Powell made 16 saves in the loss, setting a new career-high, while Shauna Hutchinson made six stops for the Red Dragons.

St. Lawrence will be in action again next Wednesday, March 28 when they travel to Potsdam State to take on the Bears at 4:00pm. The Saints defeated Potsdam State earlier this season by the score of 20-9.
