The St. Lawrence University men's lacrosse team dropped a 9-4 decision to Nazareth College on Saturday at Comet Field in Carthage, NY.

Sophomore Jeff Goeke turned in another solid outing in net for St. Lawrence (2-4) but Nazareth (4-2) was outstanding in transition defense and held the Saints scoreless in the second half.

The Golden Flyers finished with an impressive 41-15 advantage in shots and won the ground ball battle 29-18.  Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar led Nazareth with three goals and an assist, while C.J. Estes scored twice as well.  Junior Matt Pope had two goals for St. Lawrence, who were plagued by 23 turnovers in the loss.

Jacobs-Ferderbar scored the only goal of the first quarter at 5:47, with an assist going to Estes.  Despite a 12-2 advantage in shots in the stanza, though, Nazareth was held to a one-goal cushion thanks to Goeke's seven save period.

Pope evened the scoring at 1-1 early in the second quarter thanks to a nice pass from sophomore Dave Hovey, but Jacobs Ferderbar answered with consecutive goals only 20 seconds apart for a 3-1 Nazareth lead.

After Estes made it 4-1 midway through the second quarter, the Scarlet and Brown rallied with tallies from both sophomore Dave Schoettler and Pope to cut its deficit to one at 4-3.  Nazareth's Adam Nauerth and St. Lawrence's Drake Paul exchanged goals in the final 1:30 of the first half to cap the scoring with the Golden Flyers nursing a narrow 5-4 lead at intermission.

The second half proved to be all Nazareth, though, as the team forced numerous turnovers on clearing tries by St. Lawrence.  The Golden Flyers made it 6-4 on a goal by Estes at 3:39, but DeLone delivered a big momentum swing with a goal with no time remaining in the half to push the cushion to 7-4.  Though the officials met to discuss the goal, they ruled the ball had crossed the line prior to the horn sounding.

That goal swung all of the momentum in Nazareth's favor entering the fourth quarter, which they won 2-0.  Scott Castle and DeLone scored the only tallies of the fourth, while the Golden Flyer defense kept the Saints' offense quiet until the final whistle.

Grant Williams closed with seven saves in net for Nazareth to improve to 4-2 on the year.  The only two penalties in the game were both called against St. Lawrence, which did not allow a man-up goal.

St. Lawrence will look to rebound from Saturday's loss when it hosts Potsdam State on Tuesday, March 29 at 4:00 p.m. at Hall-Leet Stadium.
