The St. Lawrence University men's cross country team, ranked fifth in the USTFCCCA national polls, took the top-5 places and 11 of the top-13 en route to the 2010 Ronald C. Hoffmann Invitational championship on Saturday in Canton, NY. Senior Jeremy Mwenda earned the individual crown, while sophomore Ram Rakoc followed as the runner-up.
St. Lawrence won its annual home race with a total of 15 points ahead of Clarkson University, which was second with 63 points. The University of Ottawa (64), Cortland State (115) and SUNY Canton (142) also competed on Saturday.
Mwenda won his first collegiate race with a time of 26:02, 10 seconds ahead of Rakoc in second position. Juniors Seth Jackson (26:12), Steve Kiplagat (26:16) and John Johnston (26:17) rounded out the team's scoring behind top-5 showings.
Senior Josh LeBlanc (26:26) was seventh overall and was followed by rookie Steve Petramale (26:42). Junior Alex Calderwood (26:58) was 10th overall ahead of teammates Tim Liponis (11th, 27:00), Brendan Courneene (13th, 27:14), Jimmy Mayers (17th, 27:45) and Jon Eng (18th, 27:46).
Also running for the Saints in the Hoffmann Invitational were Jack Knych (22nd, 28:04), Landen Elliot-Knaggs (24th, 28:13), Corey Hahnl (30th, 28:37), Kevin Machia (40th, 29:12), Andrew Sargrad (43rd, 29:22), Mark Perlman (45th, 29:28), Sean Callahan (47th, 29:32), Ethan Self (57th, 30:42), Kyle Blanchette (63rd, 31:27) and Tyler Harris (66th, 31:56).
St. Lawrence will have next weekend off before returning to action on October 23rd at the 2010 NYSCTC Championships in Saratoga Springs, NY.
