HILTON HEAD, S.C.—Senior goalie Katie Longamore (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) matched a career-high with 18 saves, but Curry College (3-1) rallied late for an 11-10 win over the SUNY Potsdam women's lacrosse team (1-3) on Tuesday afternoon in South Carolina. Senior captain Cayla O'Connor (Dexter, N.Y./General Brown) led the Bears with three goals and an assist, while freshman midfielder Calena Rodriguez (Albany, N.Y./Albany) recorded her first three collegiate points on two goals and an assist.
A free-position goal from sophomore midfielder Zoe Morgenroth (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) opened the scoring and a marker from senior captain Meaghan Paige (Carthage, N.Y./Carthage) had the Bears up 2-1 early. However, the Colonels battled back and took a 6-3 break into the half.
Potsdam made a second half push and regained the lead at 10-9 with four minutes left. Again, Curry answered and took the 11-10 advantage with a minute to go. The Bears got the ball back and successfully cleared it with time running down, but couldn't get the equalizer.
Juniors Ashley Burrowes (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) and Alli Stark (Walworth, N.Y./ Gananda) each contributed a goal and an assist. Junior midfielder Alexa Ferrer (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) also netted a goal. Potsdam was three-for-five on free-position attempts on the afternoon.
The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon in Hilton Head when they take on Husson College at 12:30 p.m.
Complete statistics for the contest will be available tomorrow.
