First-year student Kelly Legg converted on a put-back with less than a second remaining as the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team defeated Skidmore College 49-47, Friday night in Saratoga Springs, NY.

St. Lawrence improves to 18-5 on the season with a 9-4 mark in the Liberty League, while Skidmore falls to 11-12 and 7-6 in the conference.  The Saints have clinched a playoff spot and, with a win tomorrow against Union, would earn at least a share of the Liberty League regular season title and host the conference championships.

Legg had a game-high 18 points to go with nine rebounds while sophomore Erica and Spera finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards.

St. Lawrence and Skidmore battled back and forth throughout the entire 40:00 minutes, with Skidmore owning the largest lead of the contest at six points with 11:57 remaining in the first half.  There were four ties and four lead changes in the first half and the Thoroughbreds held a 27-26 advantage at halftime.

The two teams continued to keep it close in the second half as neither team was able to gain more than a four point advantage.  Late in the contest, Spera gave the Saints a three-point advantage on a layup with 2:06 remaining, but Skidmore's Christine Kemp answered with a three-pointer less than 10 seconds later to tie it up at 47-47.

Neither team was able to convert for the remainder of the game until Legg was able to recover the rebound off junior Iris Santoni's missed jumper and layed it up and in with 0.7 seconds left to give the Saints  a 49-47 victory.

St. Lawrence will play its final regular season contest tomorrow at Union College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00pm.
