GENESEO, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam women’s basketball (5-19,3-14 SUNYAC) team fell to Geneseo by a final score of 58-40. Katelyn Charbonneau led all scorers with 12 points and Bri Dunton chipped in 10.

The Bears struggled to find openings in the stingy Blue Knights defense during the first half. Potsdam managed only 25.9 percent (7-of-27) shooting from the field and was 1-of-9 from long range. Geneseo (15-9, 10-7) took advantage of the Bears cold shooting and ran out to a 20-9 lead with just over five minutes remaining. Adedoyin Akingba scored to cut the led to single digits but the Knights rebounded with a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 26-11. Potsdam was able to cut into the lead but a late basket gave Geneseo a 28-16 lead going into the locker room.

The Blue Knights began the second half with an 11-0 run to take a commanding 39-16 lead. Potsdam managed a late run thanks to back-to-back jumpers by senior Sophie Parks that cut into the lead. Akingba would score with 5:04 remaining to cut the deficit to 52-40 but those would be the last points of the game for the Bears. Geneseo scored the last six points of the game to pull out the victory.

For the game, Potsdam shot 33.3 percent from the field and couldn’t overcome 22 turnovers. Parks led the charge with 10 points and Akingba added eight points while converting all four of her field goal attempts.

Geneseo shot 39.6 percent from the field and converted on 80 percent of their free throws. The Blue Knights had a balanced attack with 10 different players getting into the scoring column.

The Bears wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Brockport for a 2 p.m. game.
