Annandale-on-Hudson, NY - Freshman Mia Petrone scored five times and Katie Sergeant added four points to help the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team pick up a 17-4 Liberty League victory over Bard College in the squad's first game since returning from its Florida trip.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Liberty League, while the Raptors dropped to 4-3 and 0-2 in conference games. Clarkson will look to even its overall record when it hosts SUNY Canton on Tuesday at Hantz Turf Field.

The key to the Knights' win on Saturday, other than controlling possession for much of the game, came on free-position opportunities, something at which Clarkson had struggled with coming into the game. The Green and Gold were just 18-for-61 through seven contests on free-position shots, but scored six times on their first nine chances against Bard, including three in the first three minutes.

Clarkson scored the first goal of the game just 29 seconds in on an FPS by Petrone, and Bard won the ensuing draw control. However, after a turnover by the Raptors, Clarkson rarely allowed Bard to touch the ball again for the next five minutes. In that stretch of time the Knights built a 6-0 lead by the 25:10 mark. Bard finally got on the scoreboard at 23:36, but the Knights continued to put pressure on the Raptors, with the home team clearing the ball only once in its first five chances. Clarkson took advantage by converting on more free-position chances, with tallies by Jaid Baytos (19:28), Emma Andrews (15:32) and Marisa Clark (12:49). Neither team would score another goal for the final 12 minutes following Clark's goal.

Petrone opened the second half with two goals and Katie Sergeant followed with three straight goals between 25:02 and 20:30 to put the Knights up 14-2. For the remainder of the contest the clock would run with the double-digit lead, with Bard scoring twice in the final six minutes to double its previous output.

Clarkson finished the game with a lead in shots (37-17), shots on goal (27-15), free-position attempts (18-6) and draw controls (13-10). Petrone led the Knights' offense with five goals while Sergeant had three goals and an assist. Aubrey Borgesi scored all three of her goals in the first four minutes of the game, while Baytos and Andrews each added two goals. Natalie Farnett also scored two points with a goal and one assist and Sydney Roderick added a pair of assists. Emily Fischer made two saves in the first 35 minutes of the game for the Knights and Sydney Christiansen denied four shots in the final 25 minutes.

For Bard, Caleigh DeCaprio scored twice and Dylan McDonald recorded two points with a goal and one assist. Izabel Kickner made 10 saves for the Raptors.
