Potsdam, NY - Vassar nailed five straight 3-pointers to open the second half, but the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team's halftime lead was enough cushion to withstand that scoring streak, and the Golden Knights held on for a 67-50 victory Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 11-9 overall and 3-6 in the Liberty League, keeping alive their hopes for a conference post-season spot. Vassar dropped to 3-17 and 1-8. Clarkson will host St. Lawrence University at 8:00 pm on Tuesday night.

In the early going, Vassar held a modest one-point lead, but Clarkson went on 16-2 run over the course of seven minutes to take a 20-7 lead midway through the first half. That advantage pushed past 20 by halftime, as the Knights shot 16-for-35 (45.7%) from the field while holding Vassar to 7-for-25 shooting (28.0 percent). Junior guard Felix Llanos (Queens, NY) tossed in 10 points, while freshman Nate Uline (Gansevoort, NY) added eight points and five rebounds. Junior Tyler Barron (Burlington, VT) had five assists in the opening 20 minutes.

Vassar certainly did not lay down for Clarkson, making six of its first eight shots to open the second half, including five 3-pointers after not sinking a distance shot in the opening half. While the Brewers cut into Clarkson's lead, the Knights were able to respond with key jumpers from Rey Jefferson (Budd Lake, NJ) and Shawn Lasalita (San Diego, CA). Although Clarkson went cold from beyond the 3-point arc in the second half (1-for-10), Nate Uline and Jonathan Hood (Cortlandt Manor, NY) were able to convert on the inside with some solid passes from Barron and Llanos while they ran the offense in transition.

Llanos finished with 15 points ot lead Clarkson, while Uline had a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Jefferson contributed 10 points, and Barron finished with seven assists. Ethan Shanley had a solid all-around game for Vassar, scoring 17 points to go along with his eight rebounds and four assists.
