Knights swimmers return to action at Rensselaer's Kumpf Invitational

Troy, NY - Returning from a 42-day layoff, the Clarkson University Men's Swimming team showed little rust at Rensselaer's annual Kumpf Invitational. Three Golden Knights' swimmers produced a pair of top-10 finishes as the Green and Gold came in fifth among eight teams.

Clarkson scored 167 points at the invitational, trailing Ithaca College (608), Cortland State (551), Rensselaer (434), and Roger Williams (204.5), and leading Oneonta State (163.5), Vassar College (114), and Skidmore College (69).

Junior Mike Rowe (Glenville, NY) tied for third in the 200 backstroke (2:01.41), the top individual performance of the day, and also added in a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:52.52). Sophomore Sean Parnett (Clifton Park, NY) also had a pair of top-10 finishes, taking sixth in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:37.28 and 10th in the 200 butterfly. Senior Brendan Hofler (Glen Gardner, NJ) joined Rowe and Parnett with two top-10 showings. Hofler topped Parnett's finish in the 200 butterfly with an eighth-place tap in a time of 2:11.06. He also came in 10th in the 500 freestyle (5:15.29).

One other Clarkson swimmer had a top-10 finish, as senior Robert Stevens (Lakewood, NY) took 10th in the 100 freestyle in 51.18 seconds. Stevens also had a hand in Clarkson's two top relay squads. In the 400 freestyle relay, Stevens, Kane Streichert (Norwich, NY), Nick Clemens (Lowville, NY), and Mitchell Maciuba (Clarence, NY) combined for a sixth-place finish in 3:28.61. The 400 medley relay team that joined Rowe, Chris Plummer (Spencerport, NY), Stevens, and Paul Telesca (Liverpool, NY) came in eighth with a time of 3:48.31.
