Waltham, MA - Rallying from a 2-1 deficit, the Clarkson University Volleyball team pulled off one of its biggest victories of the season with a five-set victory over UMass-Boston. The elation didn't carry over into the second match of the day, however, as host Brandeis beat the exhausted Golden Knights in four sets, giving the Green and Gold a split at the Judges Classic Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights moved to 24-8 on the season and are eyeing one of the top seeds in the upcoming Liberty League Tournament next weekend. UMass-Boston, receiving votes in the latest national polls, fell to 25-3 on the campaign, while the Judges moved to 14-16.

In the first match of the day, Clarkson looked to pick up a significant victory to impress the pollsters down the road and for a potential NCAA bid. The Knights were led by junior Sara Artus (St. Regis Falls, NY), who struck for 21 kills in 49 swings, while classmate Megan Mahon (Irvine, CA) added in nine kills. Freshman Lani Durio (Austin, TX) produced 39 assists, and classmate Holly McDaniel (Hacienda Heights, CA) had 21 digs. Senior Alison Schroeder (Webster, NY) also dug 20 balls on the defensive end for Clarkson.

The second match saw Clarkson tired from its first-match ordeal, but the Knights still put up a tough fight, as the final three sets were decided by a combined nine points. Sara Artus hit at a .420 clip, punishing 16 kills against just a pair of errors in 33 swings. Megan Mahon nearly matched Artus with a .400 hitting percentage of her own, striking for 15 kills with three errors in 30 swings. Freshman Erika Chin (Katy, TX) had 21 assists and 21 digs, while classmate Lani Durio had 18 assists.
