Knights' Queensbury Crew Paces Squad at Hoffman Cross Country Invitational

Canton, NY - A trio of Clarkson University Men's Cross Country runners from Queensbury, NY helped pace the team's efforts at the Hoffman Invitational held on the campus of St. Lawrence University Saturday afternoon as the Golden Knights finished second among five teams.

Clarkson placed second behind the hosts with 63 points. St. Lawrence's men paced the race with a team-low of 15 points, followed by Clarkson, Ottawa (64), Cortland State (115), and SUNY Canton (142). The women's team placed fourth among four teams. St. Lawrence's women scored 17 points, with Cortland (55), Ottawa (78), and Clarkson (90) rounding out the field.

Junior Alex Benway (Queensbury, NY) finished sixth overall with a time of 26 minutes, 18 seconds in the 8,000-meter event, just 16 seconds off the pace. Sophomore Pat Carroll (Queensbury, NY) ended up in 12th place in 27:07 and freshman Dan Fritz (Cicero, NY) crossed the finish line in 20th in 27:49. Junior Neal Campbell (Queensbury, NY) was 23rd in 28:06, and Matt Gammariello (Webster, NY) finished the scoring for the Knights with a 29th-place showing in 28:34.

For the women, freshman Catherine Zarnofsky (Glenville, NY) ran the 6,000-meter event in 25:56, coming in 25th overall. Junior Maureen Hill (Latham, NY) was just 19 seconds behind Zarnofsky in 28th place. The final three scorers for Clarkson were bunched together, coming in 35th, 36th, and 37th place, respectively. Those three were Jessica Hernandez (Owego, NY), Natalie Worley (Williamsville, NY), and Rachel Bachman (Queensbury, NY).
