Sunday River, ME - Seniors Sophie LeBlanc (Cumberland, ME) and Jill Clevenger (LaGrangeville, NY) each placed in the top 10 for the Clarkson University Alpine Ski team in the giant slalom event, headlining an impressive first day at the USCSA National Championships.
The Golden Knights' women placed fourth in the giant slalom, their best finish in school history, and an especially outstanding figure considering the Green and Gold only qualified for the USCSA Eastern Regionals on the last day of the conference season. Clarkson will continue to race through this weekend at the USCSA Nationals.
LeBlanc was the leader for the Knights, taking seventh among 101 qualifying skiers at the nationals, finishing her two runs in a combined 2:34.03. Her classmate and teammate, Clevenger, was just a tenth of a second behind with a time of 2:34.14 to take eighth place. The duo earned USCSA Second-Team All-America status with their finish and went along way in helping the Knights to such a solid finish.
Sophomore Sarah Shafer (Petoskey, MI) took 38th with a time of 2:47.44, while freshmen Hailey Gilmore (Woodbury, CT) and Mycala Stebbins (Canandaigua, NY) placed 63rd and 69th, respectively.
